Graham Packaging is seeking a hands-on Process Engineering that applies the science of extrusion blow molding in order to implement stable, repeatable and capable manufacturing processes. This individual will be also responsible for diagnosing machine and process issues and applying problem solving processes across Graham network of plants. This position reports into Graham Packaging's Global Technical Center in York, PA but can work remotely.
Responsibilities- Develop production processes as part of the commercialization of new products and generate process documentation in the form of Standard Operating Conditions (SOCs)
- Optimize production processes and establish operational limits to key process variables
- Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for process control and equipment setup.
- Provide auditing of SOP's
- Contribute to the improvement in process engineering standard work, SOPs and tools to support process development
- Process unit cavity molds as part of the development process
- Lead moderately complex problem solving activities and apply technically robust solutions
- Provide support for process validation during equipment commissioning
- Train skilled plant personnel and other technical specialists on machine set-up and corrective actions
- Provide written reports to peers, management, vendors and customers including recommendations for improvement to machine, mold and tooling and bottle design.
- Direct plant processing remotely via phone or Ethernet connection.
- Able to backfill as New Product Development Engineer or Onsite Project Manager for small to moderate tract projects.
Core Proficiencies and Skills
The following skills and proficiencies are essential requirements of the position:
- Expert knowledge of the properties of blow molding resins and other raw materials
- Expert processing skills for monolayer, multilayer, single parison and multiple parison bottles
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills of blow molding equipment
- Strong understanding of 2 types of blow molding platforms as well as basic knowledge of all EBM platforms
- Strong understanding of statistics, data analysis and statistical process control
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong understanding of PDCA and effective problem solving
- Travel 75%
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
- BS degree in Engineering (Plastics or Mechanical preferred) or 15 years' experience in a Manufacturing Engineering position developing blow mold processes for new markets and product lines.
- Mold making, repair and maintenance experience preferred.
- Hands-on experience setting up, operating, maintaining, rebuilding and troubleshooting extrusion blow molders (CE,Graham Wheel, Techne shuttles, Techne Rotax, Uniloy, VR, Wilmington).
The expected salary range for the position described in this posting is made in accordance with the legal mandates of certain jurisdictions within the United States. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual qualifications and experience.
