Job Description

The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the full-cycle payroll operations for a large, unionized workforce of approximately 1,500–2,000 employees. This role requires strong leadership experience, union payroll expertise, and the ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish. The Payroll Supervisor will ensure accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining compliance with federal, state, local, and collective bargaining agreement requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise, mentor, and manage payroll staff to ensure efficient and accurate payroll processing.
  • Oversee full-cycle payroll for 1,500–2,000 employees, including hourly, salaried, and union employees.
  • Ensure compliance with union contracts, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable labor laws.
  • Review payroll reports for accuracy, including wages, overtime, deductions, benefits, garnishments, and tax with holdings.
  • Coordinate and manage multi-state payroll tax filings and compliance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries, including escalations.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Benefits teams to ensure accurate employee data and reporting.
  • Maintain payroll systems and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assist with audits, reconciliations, and year-end processing (W-2s, 1099s, etc.).
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of payroll experience, including union payroll processing.
  • Experience processing payroll for 1,500–2,000 employees required.
  • Prior management or supervisory experience required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems and advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
