The Fermentation Lead Operator is a hands-on role responsible for executing and troubleshooting production runs, maintaining equipment, and supporting core fermentation functions. This position collaborates with supervisors and managers to drive continuous improvement, train new staff, and ensure the fermentation area is organized and well-maintained. Strong troubleshooting skills, mechanical aptitude, and an understanding of process controls and automation are essential.
Responsibilities:- Oversee and execute production-scale fermentation processes, including media preparation, sterilization, probe calibration, and downstream processing.
- Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, a strong work ethic, and effective team collaboration.
- Ensure all standard operating procedures are followed and documentation is completed accurately and thoroughly.
- Troubleshoot process issues and perform basic preventive maintenance and repairs on fermentation equipment.
- Coordinate with management and maintenance teams to resolve errors, implement solutions, and advance departmental goals.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment, adapting to changing conditions and upholding 5S standards.
- Facilitate smooth handoffs of products and samples between fermentation, quality control, and production teams.
- Step in to supervise fermentation operators in the absence of supervisors and assist other departments as needed.
- Leadership experience within a work team is required.
- Industrial experience in a relevant setting is required.
- Bachelor of Science in a related field is preferred, but not essential.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively.
- Strong teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Ambition to master and improve fermentation processes and department operations.
- Demonstrated responsibility, organization, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and correspondence.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to present information effectively in small group and one-on-one settings.
- Capable of performing basic microbiological tests when required.
- Physical ability to meet the demands of the role, with reasonable accommodations as needed.
