Hiring a Yard Worker / Forklift Operator in East York!

This role supports a busy structural steel shop by safely handling, sorting, and moving materials using forklifts and overhead cranes. You will load and unload trucks, maneuver materials throughout the facility, and ensure parts are staged correctly to keep production flowing smoothly.

Responsibilities
  • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes to maneuver materials safely throughout the facility.
  • Load and unload trucks with structural and miscellaneous steel materials.
  • Sort, stage, and organize parts and materials according to job requirements and production schedules.
  • Use tape measures accurately, including reading measurements down to 1/32", to verify material dimensions.
  • Support structural and miscellaneous steel production by ensuring materials are delivered to the correct workstations on time.
  • Work closely with welders, layout/fitters, and weld inspectors to ensure materials are available to meet job deadlines.
  • Use basic computer skills to track materials, update records, or follow work instructions as needed.
  • Operate yard equipment such as yard jockey or similar material-moving equipment, when required.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience operating forklifts in an industrial or shop environment.
  • Proven experience operating overhead cranes to move materials safely.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately to 1/32".
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with tools and materials in a production shop.
  • Basic computer skills to support material tracking and shop workflows.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints or layout instructions.
  • Experience with material handling in a structural or industrial setting.
Shift
  • Monday - Friday (5am - 2:30pm) or until finish
Pay
  • $20-$22/ Hr (Paid Weekly)

Work

Environment

This position is based at a Market Street shop dedicated to structural and miscellaneous steel work. The facility is equipped with overhead cranes throughout to move materials safely, and safety is a clear priority in daily operations. You will have your own workstation and are expected to work independently while collaborating with the broader production team. The role follows a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, with hours typically around 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and mandatory overtime as needed, including some Saturdays during the busiest season.

Training may be scheduled on a 5:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. shift for a few weeks. The environment is industrial and hands-on, requiring steel-toe boots and personal welding gear if you support welding-related tasks. You will work closely with shop personnel, including welders, layout/fitters, and weld inspectors, in a production-focused setting where meeting construction job deadlines is essential.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East York, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
