Houck Roof Maintenance Crew Leader - Greencastle
Cover and maintain roofs of structures with asphalt, aluminum, rubber, slate, copper, coatings, etc. Apply coatings to roof surfaces. Remove old roof materials and apply new materials. Investigate, find and repair various issues causing roof leaks. Willing to be flexible and work on rainy days and around weather. There may be times where you will be required to come in later, work later hours or on weekends to meet the required 40‑hour work week and to service our customer’s emergency needs.
You will also be asked to be “on‑call” for after‑hours service calls as part of a rotation with other Roof Maintenance Technicians.

Essential Functions- Must report for work on “rain days” if called between 7 AM – 3:30 PM.
- Expected to respond and report for work when “on‑call”.
- Oversees roofing/repair work and jobsites to include 1 – 5 other employees.
- Answers company issued phone and responds to emails in a timely fashion (within 30 minutes).
- Takes clear photos and provides descriptions.
- Inputs job information into a company database via a company issued iPad.
- Records accurate work hours into accompanying database for themselves and other employees working on a jobsite.
- Makes minor or extensive repairs to all roofing and coating systems as per manufacturer specifications.
- Fastens composition shingles or sheets to roof with asphalt, cement, or other means.
- Applies alternate layers of hot asphalt and roofing paper until roof thickness is satisfactory.
- Aligns roof material with edge of roof.
- Flashes around walls, vents, and other surfaces.
- Mops or pours hot asphalt onto roof base.
- Applies gravel or pebbles over top layer using rake or other means.
- Installs insulation.
- Cleans construction site to eliminate possible hazards.
- Removes snow and water from roofs.
- Tends pumps, compressors, generators, kettles.
- Loads and unloads truck.
- Washes and treats surfaces using chemicals as specified.
- Covers existing surfaces with drop cloths, paper or masking tape for protection of surfaces.
- Erects scaffolding, sets up ladders, or works out of aerial equipment to work above ground.
- Abides by and enforces all OSHA and Houck safety guidelines.

Functions can take place indoors or outdoors, sometimes in high, precarious places with fumes and/or airborne particles. The standard work environment has loud to very loud noise levels associated with various equipment, coworkers and phone conversations. Often work must be performed in high and/or cramped work spaces and awkward positions. The employee works around hazardous situations, materials and equipment.
