OF WORK
In this role, you will be responsible for a range of analytical tasks while also executing preventative maintenance and repairs on a varied fleet that encompasses construction machinery, trucks, and gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles. Your duties will include servicing an array of systems, such as hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems, in addition to both manual and automatic transmissions. You will also be tasked with conducting state vehicle inspections for all applicable equipment, ensuring that work orders are completed accurately, and meticulously recording the time allocated to each task.
It is crucial to promptly report any incidents or damage to the equipment to maintain operational integrity. To excel in this position, you must possess the ability to identify appropriate repair procedures for heavy machinery and implement necessary mechanical adjustments to ensure optimal performance. Furthermore, prioritizing a safe working environment for yourself, your colleagues, and equipment operators is of utmost importance.
Schedule and Additional Information
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Travel, overtime, and shift work required.
- Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements, weather conditions, and operational needs.

Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492.00 (before taxes). - You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. - Successful completion of the Commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) ; or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment ; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
- This position requires possession of an Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
- This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
