Job Description

This full-time Welding Foreman role oversees on-site welding and fabrication projects for miscellaneous metals, including handrails, stairs, and frames. The position combines hands-on STICK and MIG welding with field fabrication, crew leadership, and daily planning to ensure high-quality, safe, and on-schedule project delivery. The role is based out of York, PA, with most work performed on local job sites. Some over-night travel may be required for field foreman roles.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise a field crew of 1–4 welders and fabricators on active job sites.
  • Perform hands-on STICK and MIG welding in the field on miscellaneous metals and structural steel.
  • Layout, fabricate, and install miscellaneous metals such as handrails, stairs, frames, and steel components according to drawings and specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, welding symbols, and structural details to plan and execute work accurately.
  • Plan daily work activities, including task assignments, material needs, and manpower requirements to meet project schedules.
  • Ensure strict compliance with jobsite safety standards, OSHA guidelines, and company policies at all times.
  • Operate and oversee the safe use of welding equipment, power tools, Pettibone lifts, and scissor lifts.
  • Coordinate field activities and maintain clear communication with project managers, supervisors, general contractors, inspectors, and customers.
  • Monitor work quality and ensure all welds and installations meet applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Start on smaller, basic projects and progressively take on more complex scopes as performance and proficiency are demonstrated.
  • Troubleshoot issues in the field, resolve problems quickly, and adjust plans as needed to keep projects on track.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area on job sites and in the shop.
  • Model a disciplined, detail-oriented approach and mentor crew members in safe, efficient, and high-quality work practices.
Essential Skills
  • At least 3 to 5 years of field or shop welding and fabrication experience.
  • Proficiency in STICK and MIG welding, including work on carbon steel and structural steel.
  • Strong experience working with miscellaneous metals such as handrails, stairs, frames, and steel structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to lay out materials from blueprints and accurately interpret welding symbols and blueprint details.
  • Working proficiency in blueprint reading for structural and miscellaneous metals projects.
  • Prior experience operating Pettibone lifts and scissor lifts in a field environment.
  • Solid working knowledge of power tools and jobsite safety practices.
  • Proven leadership ability with a disciplined, detail-oriented, and safety-focused approach.
  • Dependable and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and lead a small crew in the field.
  • Strong planning, organization, and problem-solving skills to manage daily tasks and project timelines.
  • Customer-focused mindset with professional communication skills for interacting with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform field-based work, including climbing, bending, and working in various site conditions.
  • AWS D1.1-2020 Structural Welding Code – Steel certification.
  • Hands-on experience with steel welding, steel frame fabrication, and structural welding to code requirements.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a foreman, lead welder, or similar field leadership role.
  • Experience coordinating with general contractors and inspectors on active construction projects.
  • OSHA safety training or safety-related certifications.
  • Experience with fabrication and installation of structural steel and miscellaneous metals in warehouse and similar environments.
  • Familiarity with AWS certification requirements and adherence to structural welding codes.
