This is a rewarding opportunity to conduct standardized examinations to assess the skill and competency of both commercial (CDL) and non-commercial driver license applicants. As a Driver License Examiner, you will conduct standardized examinations to evaluate the skill and competence of both commercial (CDL) and non-commercial driver license applicants, as well as assist customers at the Driver License Center by processing applications and paperwork. Special attention must be given towards thoroughly examining paperwork and documentation in order to combat identity theft and fraud. Specific duties include determining physical and driving qualifications of applicants and the mechanical conditions of vehicles for conformance to the established standards necessary for safe driving.
You will administer telebinocular, color perception, and other tests of vision, in addition to administering non-CDL and CDL examinations to ensure examinee’s have a knowledge and understanding of Vehicle Code and traffic signs. Once applications and test results are accurately processed, you will be responsible for issuing driver license and identification card products to eligible applicants. Efficient and courteous customer service and communication skills are essential, as you will be interacting with the public on a daily basis and responding to a variety of inquiries.
Schedule and Additional Information
- Full-time employment, 40 hours/week
- Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Occasional overtime and travel to other Driver License Centers may be required.

- One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
- All positions require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
- All positions require no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
- All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
