This role involves safely operating a box truck or tractor trailer to pick up and deliver products, primarily tires and wheels, to customer locations and company facilities. You will work a Monday through Friday schedule, typically from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some variation based on daily needs. The position requires a strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and professional customer service while performing deliveries, handling paperwork, and maintaining the vehicle in excellent condition.
Responsibilities- Drive a box truck or tractor trailer to deliver tires and wheels to customer locations and company facilities.
- Pick up and deliver products according to assigned routes while maintaining a professional and courteous manner.
- Load and unload tires and wheels, both manually and using a forklift or lift gates as needed.
- Verify product accuracy and quantities against delivery invoices to ensure correct orders are delivered.
- Obtain customer signatures on invoices or receipts for all pickups and deliveries to document completed work.
- Correctly complete and attach tags or labels to tires, ensuring all retread tires have proper identification before loading.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the truck to present a professional appearance.
- Complete daily mileage and pickup reports accurately and submit them at the end of each day.
- Perform routine daily maintenance checks on the truck to ensure it is safe and roadworthy.
- Use all provided safety equipment, including seat belts, and perform all tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
- Communicate equipment needs and promptly report mechanical issues that require repair.
- Report any unsafe actions, problems, or abnormal situations to the appropriate manager or supervisor.
- Ensure all products leave the facility with the proper paperwork and report any attempts to bypass safety rules or company policies.
- Perform miscellaneous job duties as needed to support prompt and reliable service to customers.
- Complete and submit VMRs, driver's logs, and pre- and post-trip truck inspections on a weekly basis.
- Follow written, oral, and diagram-based instructions to carry out daily tasks and route assignments.
- Interact effectively with customers and coworkers, providing clear communication and professional service.
- At least 1 year of related work experience in driving or a similar role.
- Minimum of 4 years of clean driving history.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Current DOT medical card or the ability to obtain one, with assistance available if needed.
- Ability to safely operate a box truck or tractor trailer, including 26-foot box trucks and dump trucks.
- Experience with loading and unloading products manually and with a forklift.
- Forklift certification or the ability to successfully complete a company-provided forklift certification test.
- Capability to operate lift gates and related loading equipment.
- Basic computer skills, with willingness to learn additional systems as needed.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence accurately and clearly.
- Strong verbal communication skills to interact effectively with customers and coworkers.
- Basic mathematical skills to verify quantities, complete reports, and handle simple calculations.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram-based instructions.
- Ability to frequently lift and move up to 100 pounds and occasionally up to 150 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, reach, handle materials, and perform physical tasks such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling as required.
- Close vision and depth perception sufficient to safely drive and handle products.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience driving box trucks, tractor trailers, and other commercial vehicles.
- Experience in truck driving, including Class A CDL or similar experience (CDL experience is beneficial but not explicitly required).
- Experience operating forklifts in warehouse or loading environments.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and safe driving practices.
- Experience working in environments with varying temperatures, including hot, cold, and humid conditions.
- Comfort working in warehouse settings with moderate noise levels.
- Strong attention to detail when completing paperwork, labels, and inspection reports.
- Ability to maintain a professional, well-groomed appearance while wearing a company-provided uniform.
- Willingness to pass a four-panel pre-placement physical as part of the hiring process.
