We are excited to hire a full-time (40 hours weekly), exempt Senior Building Inspector to join our team!  In this position, you will be responsible for supervising the activities of commercial and residential building inspectors to ensure the proper inspection of York County buildings and facilities; to ensure compliance with all applicable building codes and related codes and ordinances; to interpret codes as requested for contractors, owners and the general public.

Projected Salary Range/Pay Grade 120: $66,473.81 - $79,768.57 per year. Salary is determined based on qualifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Supervises commercial and residential building inspectors; supervisory duties include scheduling, instructing, planning work, assigning and reviewing work, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, acting on employee problems, and recommending employee discipline. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; offers training, advice and assistance as needed.

* Ensures the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date records by inspectors.

* Explains, interprets and provides guidance regarding applicable codes and compliance requirements to contractors, engineers, architects, developers, property owners and others.

* Plans, schedules and conducts building inspectors to ensure compliance with the ICC building, gas, mechanical, plumbing and electrical codes.

* Reviews architectural drawings and specifications for code compliance.

* Take the lead on special projects, ensuring consistency.

* Inspects and reports on unsafe housing. Uses a county vehicle to travel to various locations within York County for this purpose.

* Maintains thorough and accurate records of inspections; meets with contractors, property owners, and others regarding inspection results; makes recommendations for changes as necessary to achieve compliance; follows up to verify that corrections have been made to comply with codes.

* Issues violation notices and prepared cases for prosecution in the event of non-compliance; testifies in court as necessary.

* Keeps the Building Official and Deputy Building Official informed of inspection progress and any difficult or unusual situations.

* Coordinates inspection activities with zoning officials, the Fire, stormwater inspectors, water and sewer inspectors as needed.

* Performs related work as assigned.

Education and Experience:

* Requires Associate's degree in Architecture or a Building Trades/Building Design related discipline;

* Four (4) years of experience related to building inspections or construction; or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Certifications and Licenses:

* Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

* Must possess ICC certification as a Commercial Building Inspector, Commercial Electrical Inspector, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, and Commercial Mechanical Inspector.

* South Carolina Building Codes Council registration as a Commercial Inspector.
