Night Manager – YHA York

Location: YHA York, 42 Water End, Clifton, York, North Yorkshire, YO30 6LP

Type: Permanent, flexible contract

Hours: Minimum 25 hours per week

Pay: £13.63 per hour

YHA York is looking for a Night Manager who doesn’t just run shifts, but helps shape the experience for guests and the team alike. You’ll work closely with the Hostel Manager and Deputy Manager to keep the hostel running smoothly day‑to‑day, while also being a visible, hands‑on leader to our nights team. No two days are ever the same – and that’s exactly what makes it so rewarding.

• Direct and support team members.
• Resolve difficult situations and emergencies efficiently and professionally.
• Ensure the security of the hostel and keep the safety of guests and property during the night.
• Conduct regular hostel inspections.
• Carry out cleaning duties.
• Prepare for breakfast service.

• Experience in hospitality or customer service, including managing and delivering quality service.
• Experience managing a team – leading others and providing guidance to team members (desirable).
• APLH level 2 qualifications and NVQ Level 3 in Customer Services, Hospitality or Tourism (desirable).
• Ability to manage varying pressures, prioritise and handle conflicting duties.
• Basic IT skills, ideally Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
• Knowledge and understanding of YHA’s core purpose.
• Demonstration of YHA’s HEART values in everyday work.
