Yournew role
As a Principal / Associate Ecologist, you will take a leading role in managing and delivering ecological projects, providing technical expertise, and supporting the development of junior team members. You will work closely with clients and internal stakeholders to deliver pragmatic, high‑quality ecological solutions.
Key responsibilities- Leading a range of ecological projects, from initial survey through to reporting and delivery
- Producing and reviewing technical reports, including PEAs, EcIAs, HRAs, and BNG assessments
- Designing and overseeing protected species and habitat surveys
- Managing project programmes, budgets, and resources
- Providing technical guidance and quality assurance across the ecology team
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships
- Supporting business development through tendering and proposal writing
- Mentoring and line managing junior staff
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
- A minimum of 5 years UK consultancy experience
- Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy, and Biodiversity Net Gain
- Demonstrable experience managing ecological projects end‑to‑end
- Excellent report writing and communication skills
- Experience in reviewing technical work and providing mentorship
- Full UK driving licence
- Chartered or Full Membership of CIEEM (or working towards)
- Protected species licences (e.g. bats, GCN)
- Proven business development or client‑facing experience
- Previous line management experience
- Competitive salary of £45,000 - £60,000 (DOE)
