Environmental Specialist (Environmental Assessment and Water Resources)

We are offering a position of Environmental Specialist within the Asset Management business area, supporting our strategic water resources programme.

Location

Hybrid Working – a mix of office, home and site working.

Work type

Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday between 8:00 am – 6:00 pm working window.

Role Summary

As an Environmental Specialist you will support a range of environmental projects within the strategic water resources function, appraising the sustainability of existing and potential water sources and contributing to programmes such as WINEP, WRMP, DP and SRO.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate environmental components of work streams including WINEP studies, project/plan-level assessments and other strategic projects/research.
  • Work with colleagues and strategic planning partners to ensure a joined‑up approach across programmes.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with regulators and external stakeholders.
  • Review and QA technical documents and contribute to or author Yorkshire Water reports.
  • Organise and/or supervise environmental surveys and site visits.
  • Collate and manage environmental data sources and evidence.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Degree in a relevant discipline such as Environmental Science, Geography, Hydrology, Environmental Impact Assessment, preferably with postgraduate qualifications.
  • Experience in environmental science, assessment, or planning, ideally in the water industry or utilities.
  • Experience in environmental assessment.
  • Working knowledge of environmental and planning legislation, with ability to interpret and articulate business implications.
  • Self‑motivated, enthusiastic team player with excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to work within and across multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Able to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships.
Travel and Working Conditions

The role will involve travel to different sites across Yorkshire; a UK driving licence with no more than 6 points is required.

We embrace a flexible working model, typically requiring an average of at least one day in the office per week, with possibility of more depending on collaboration, training or deadlines.

Pre‑Employment Checks

Successful candidates will be required to undergo pre‑employment checks, including a Basic Disclosure Check. Depending on the role, a Counter Terrorist Check or Security Check clearance may also be required.
