POSITION: Special Education Teacher Functional Academics 3-5
EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: As Set by the Board of School Trustees
SALARY: As Set by the Board of School Trustees
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: K-12 Special Education Teaching License with mild intervention license.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal
EVALUATED BY: Principal or Designee
SUMMARYCreates a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. Establishes effective rapport with students. Motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education, in accordance with the ability of each student. Establishes good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

Teaching Competencies- Demonstrates preparation through systematic planning.
- Makes efficient and productive use of instructional time.
- Is able to incorporate technology into the classroom utilizing iPad instruction.
- Plans instruction based upon the developmental level of the student.
- Is able to incorporate technology into the classroom including iPad instruction.
- Develops clear requirements and expectations and communicates these to students.
- Utilizes the approved curriculum to develop courses of study.
- Explains content effectively, puts ideas across logically, and in an orderly way.
- Uses a variety of teaching strategies and materials to enhance student learning.
- Demonstrates mastery of content area(s) and possesses a broad scope of knowledge.
- Uses higher level questioning to help students understand concepts and relationships.
- Uses appropriate and well-defined techniques to measure student progress.
- Includes activities which enable students to develop written and oral communication skills.
- Provides opportunities for students to develop decision-making, creative thinking, and critical thinking skills.
- Keeps a current and accurate record of student progress.
- Has teaching materials readily available for all classes.
- Makes efficient and productive use of instructional time.
- Provides reinforcement for positive behavior.
- Helps students develop positive self-concepts.
- Deals effectively and consistently with inappropriate behavior.
- Develops, communicates, and implements a code of conduct for the class.
- Adheres to school discipline policies.
- Is consistent and fair in dealing with students.
- Promotes a warm, open, and accepting class climate.
- Recognizes individual student needs and provides appropriate assistance and instruction.
- Communicates with parents regarding student achievement, behavior, and attendance.
- Takes timely and appropriate action with regard to parent requests and concerns.
- Displays a willingness to explain class procedures and educational programs to parents.
- Shares ideas, materials, and teaching methods and techniques with staff.
- Adheres to School Board policies, guidelines, and regulations.
- Uses tact and courtesy in relationships with staff and/or administrators.
- Submits reports and grades on-time.
- Maintains records that are complete, accurate, and legible.
- Provides plans and other necessary information for substitute teachers.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality with students, staff, and parents.
- Participates in grade level/school-wide meetings and fulfills committee assignments.
- Fulfills assigned supervisory duties.
- Attends all trainings for technology and the Calkins Reading/Writing Framework.
