Position Overview

Gasser Chair is seeking a Purchasing Agent to support our manufacturing operations by managing the procurement of materials and supplies required for production. This role plays a critical part in ensuring materials are available on time, meet quality standards, and are sourced at competitive costs.

The Purchasing Agent will report directly to the Purchasing Manager and work closely with internal teams and external suppliers to align purchasing activity with production schedules, inventory needs, and budget objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supplier Management:
    Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure a consistent supply of quality materials.
  • Negotiation:
    Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to support cost‑effective purchasing while meeting production timelines.
  • Inventory Control:
    Monitor inventory levels and place purchase orders to support uninterrupted production while minimizing excess stock.
  • Purchase Order Management:
    Create, manage, and maintain purchase orders in the ERP system, ensuring accuracy in pricing, quantities, and delivery dates.
  • Quality

    Collaboration:

    Work with the Quality Assurance team to ensure materials meet specifications and resolve supplier quality issues as needed.
  • Cost Optimization:
    Identify opportunities to reduce procurement costs through strategic sourcing, alternative materials, or improved supplier agreements.
  • Market Awareness:
    Stay informed on market trends, material pricing fluctuations, and supplier capabilities to support informed purchasing decisions.
  • Cross‑Functional Coordination:
    Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and other departments to align purchasing activities with operational needs.
  • Supplier Performance Tracking:
    Monitor supplier performance metrics, including on‑time delivery, quality consistency, and responsiveness.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier documentation, and generate reports related to purchasing activity and material costs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent experience in purchasing or procurement.
  • Proven experience in a purchasing or procurement role, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills with the ability to build effective supplier relationships.
  • Solid understanding of procurement processes, sourcing strategies, and supplier management.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and data analysis tools.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of market trends, material cost drivers, and procurement best practices.
Physical Requirements

His role is primarily based in a professional office environment with occasional visits to the manufacturing floor to inspect materials and verify specifications. The position requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required. Limited travel to supplier locations or industry may occur.
