Position: Construction Inspector (W/WW plant, wtr mains) - year-round work

We’re hiring
Engineering Technicians | Construction Inspectors (primarily W/WW treatment plants and water main projects) – all experience levels!

CTL Engineering (  ) is an award winning, full service consulting engineering firm with 15 locations across OH, IN, WV, KY, VA, NC, and SC with a rich history over 98 years in business. We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting and installation, and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

We are looking for all experience levels of Engineering Technicians | Construction Inspectors who will play a key role in our Construction Administration/Construction Inspection division. Ongoing mentoring and training will be provided, based on your experience level, with opportunities for increasing responsibility if that is your career trajectory and interest.

Qualifications
  • High School and Tech/Trade School graduates/Associate degrees with a genuine interest in construction inspection are encouraged to apply.
  • Prior experience/exposure to water/wastewater plant and/or water main projects is a strong plus but not required.
  • New Grads (or experienced) with Bachelor’s degrees in Construction Management or Civil Engineering (focus on construction inspection and administration) are encouraged to apply as well.
Highlights
  • Project types will focus primarily on Water/Wastewater plants and water main projects (repairs, installations) in the Ashtabula/northeast Ohio region.
  • A company truck can be provided or you can use your personal vehicle and receive a reimbursement.
  • The typical schedule is Monday‑Friday – day shift typically (7am‑5pm). If bad weather affects the timeline, some Saturdays may be needed to meet our clients project schedules.
  • Night time work may occur occasionally but we strive to give as much advance notice of possible so you can plan accordingly.
  • This is year‑round work since work is below the frost line.
Responsibilities
  • Performs construction engineering technician and inspection services primarily involving concrete testing, rebar inspection, and other building materials for W/WW plant construction projects and overseeing utility location, digging, and water main installations/connections and repairs for municipal clients.
  • Responsible for testing, inspecting, and reporting on specific aspects of construction works in progress, such as concrete pours, rebar placement, utility location, vertical and horizontal digging, as examples.
  • Performs inspections for construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and/or proposals for construction work.
  • Notify the Contractor or the Project Engineer of non‑conforming work.
  • May be responsible for inspection and sampling of construction materials.
  • Performs computations with formulas, plots data, and draws simple curves and graphs.
  • Assists Engineers in field during soil and materials investigations.
  • Ensures that job site tests/observations, including quality control, quality assurance, and verifications are performed in accordance with the standard test/observation methods, project specifications and other contract documents.
  • Prepares and maintains project records and reports.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of engineering, construction, testing and inspection principles is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of materials testing - standard testing and observation methods – is a plus.
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction or engineering principles is a strong plus.
  • Ability to perform quality control initiatives.
  • Ability to perform testing and lab reporting.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to perform engineering and construction field‑testing.
  • Ability to work in external environment conditions during difficult weather.
  • Ability to work and provide status updates independently.
Education
  • High School, Technical School, Community College, or Bachelor’s (Const Mgt degree or Civil Eng) graduate.
  • New Grads are encouraged to apply!
