About Youngstown Community School: YCS is a K8 public community school committed to academic growth, student support, and building strong relationships with students and families. YCS utilizes a school-wide Early Warning System (EWS), PBIS, and IMTSS framework to provide proactive academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports for all students.
We are seeking a dedicated and student-centered Intervention Specialist who is passionate about helping students achieve success through differentiated instruction, collaboration, and evidence-based practices.
Position SummaryThe Intervention Specialist provides specialized instruction and support services to students with disabilities in grades K‑8. The successful candidate will collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families to ensure students receive high‑quality instruction aligned to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Ohio Learning Standards, and the school's MTSS framework.
Essential Responsibilities- Provide especially designed instruction aligned to student IEP goals and Ohio Learning Standards.
- Implement accommodations, modifications, and intervention strategies to support student success.
- Utilize data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support inclusion, co‑teaching, and differentiated instruction.
- Support implementation of the school-wide Early Warning System (attendance, behavior, and course performance).
- Participate in intervention planning through the IMTSS/MTSS framework.
- Develop, implement, and maintain compliant IEPs, progress reports, and required special‑education documentation.
- Conduct progress monitoring and maintain accurate student records.
- Participate in ETRs, reevaluations, and team meetings as required by state and federal guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, ODEW requirements, and school policies.
- Maintain positive communication with families regarding student progress and supports.
- Work collaboratively with related service providers, ESC staff, administrators, and intervention teams.
- Participate in Teacher‑Based Teams (TBTs), professional development, and school improvement initiatives.
- Support PBIS expectations and contribute to a positive school culture and climate.
- Valid Ohio Intervention Specialist License (Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Intensive).
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree preferred. - Knowledge of special‑education law, IEP development, and progress monitoring.
- Strong classroom management and relationship‑building skills.
- Experience working within inclusive and intervention‑based models preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.
- Experience with PBIS, MTSS/IMTSS, and data‑driven instruction.
- Familiarity with Acadience, mCLASS, NWEA, or similar assessment systems.
- Experience supporting students with academic and behavioral interventions.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) participation.
