Description
The School Counselor/Academic Advisor supports scholar success by providing academic, career, and social-emotional guidance. This role works closely with scholars to ensure they meet graduation requirements, maintain engagement, and are prepared for post-secondary opportunities. The advisor helps scholars understand their academic pathway, track progress, access supports, and stay motivated throughout their high school journey.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES ACADEMIC ADVISING- Conduct credit audits and maintain up-to-date graduation planners
- Monitor scholar academic progress and update transcripts in Quick Base and EMIS
- Maintain regular advising check-ins and document interactions
- Submit, verify, and communicate weekly credit submissions from teaching staff
- Collaborate with teachers to support classroom success
- Participate in academic schedule updates in Progress Book
- Track re-engagement of scholars and support reenrollment where appropriate
- Guide scholars through post-secondary planning and FAFSA completion
- Assist with college applications, job training programs, and transcript requests
- Support OMJ seal completion and industry credential tracking
- Promote awareness of career pathways and CTE program alignment
- Coordinate transition activities for 10th graders entering Work Academy
- Enter community service hours into EMIS as logs are submitted
- Submit scholar referrals to mental health partners as needed
- Collaborate with partners (e.g., APDS) for in-school support
- Support overall scholar well-being through proactive outreach and case management
- Prepare rosters and assist with administration for EOC, ACT, and STAR testing
- Implement testing prep strategies and monitor scholar readiness
- Incentivize participation and address testing barriers
- Complete weekly data verification and support accountability checks
- Valid Ohio School Counseling License (preferred but not required)
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred but not required)
- Ability to provide and show proof of insurance and license. Have reliable transportation.
- Experience in academic advising, youth development, or education-based support
- Familiarity with Progress Book/EMIS, and Quick Base systems preferred; on-the-job training will be provided
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and foster equitable outcomes
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain accurate records
