Demolition Inspector​/Enforcement Officer

Job Overview

The employee in this position performs a wide variety of work involving the implementation and enforcement of the City of Youngstown's Housing and Demolition program. The employee conducts housing inspections of occupied and vacant dwellings to ensure conformance with the City Housing Code and related regulations.

• Inspect vacant structures for demolition and/or housing code enforcement, prepare required documentation, photographs, and other evidence.
• Inspect interiors and exteriors of occupied structures.
• Compile and maintain records and files for all inspections.
• Issue citations for offenses above the minor misdemeanor level on behalf of Housing Enforcement and Demolition Services, including other court summons to property owners in violation of the City Housing Code.
• Attend Municipal Court proceedings involving Housing Enforcement and Demolition matters with necessary documentation and photographs.
• Communicate and interact with demolition and construction contractors and relevant City and County agencies, including Municipal Court, Police, Fire, Zoning, Building and Health Department, and Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority.
• Perform other related duties as required.

• High school graduation.
• Maintain OPOTA certification under Ohio Revised Code.
• Receive a special commission from the City Chief of Police under Section 49 of the City's Charter.
• Strong interpersonal skills and familiarity with City and State Housing Codes.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
