PSI Writer
The PSI Writer performs all pre-sentence investigation on potential candidates. Once in the program, assist with conducting intakes and overseeing compliance with the supervision program requirements of the offender and makes necessary reports.
Probation Supervision
- Conduct intake on all referred Probationers.
- Classify Probationer for level of supervision (weekly, monthly, quarterly contacts).
- Assure Probationer's abide by supervision plan.
- Maintain Probation case file and Probation contact binder.
- Report all Probation Violations to the Senior Officer.
- Maintain Probationer Tracking System and coordinate a weekly review to assure Probationer's are not booked into the jail – violating condition of Probation.
- When a Probationer has financial obligations, such as child support or restitution, maintain consent to release for communication with appropriate agency to monitor compliance.
- Make recommendations to referring authority for terminating probation obligation for successful completions.
- Complete CCIS Tracking at time of Intake and Termination.
Pre-Sentence Investigation Preparation
- Senior Officer will assign PSI to be completed.
- Contact offender to begin preliminary interviewing process, and schedule time for face to face interview.
- Distribute "flyers" to local police departments, police departments from other states, hospitals, schools, employers, etc.
- Collect all criminal background information.
- Use correct format to construct PSI.
- Make sentencing recommendation based on current sentencing laws.
- Proof read report and have CEO review for final approval.
- Have report "time stamped" for the court. Have copy made for Probation Departments Record.
- Attend sentencing.
Data Research
- Interact with Prosecutor's Office and gather background information for pending Pre-Sentence Investigation Reports as directed by Senior Officer.
Communication
- Maintain effective communications with all referring authorities/courts.
- Communicate all activities to Senior Officer.
- At minimum, weekly update Chief Executive Officer on activity with Probation/Pre-Sentence Reports.
- Maintain and provide monthly report of activity.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Degree in Social Sciences or prior experience in supervision of offenders.
- Ability to coordinate with external agencies.
- Ability to organize and track client activities.
- PSI staff are required to complete the Ohio Supreme Court Officer Training program online within one year of employment or transfer into a role in the Probation department.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must be able to lift and/or move 25 pounds.
