Job DescriptionWhat You’ll Do:
- Directs, coordinates and monitors inmate grievance process and prepares statistical reports for the Warden and Chief Inspector regarding grievance filings and trends.
- Investigates and processes inmate grievances.
- Ensures compliance with various laws, rules, policies and procedures and advises the Warden and Chief Inspector of possible violations.
- Independently corrects violations.
- Identifies problem areas in delivery services and recommends improvements to Warden.
- Monitors and evaluates overall program effectiveness.
- Conducts internal investigations of alleged employee misconduct, particularly as it relates to unreported use of force and inappropriate supervision.
- Maintains applicable logs and records and prepares reports.
- Develops and administers policies and procedures related to federal, state and departmental rules and regulations.
- Serves as liaison between the Warden and inmates regarding complaints and grievance issues and processes and submits findings to the Warden (e.g., interviews inmates/employees, reviews policies & procedures to ensure compliance).
- Refers grievances to the Chief Inspectors Office and other institution Inspectors.
- Train staff on inmate grievance procedures and apprises institutional staff of changes in laws, rules and procedures regarding inmate rights.
- Conducts orientation of new employees and inmates.
- Responds to inquiries and complaints from the general public and outside agencies regarding inmates and/or employees and researches information related to inmate lawsuits.
- Coordinates management audits and assists with facilitating (e.g., ACA, IMA, PREA) within the institution and/or other facilities as designated by the Warden or Chief Inspector.
- Ensures violations found during audits are properly addressed.
- Conducts internal audits to ensure compliance of all service areas (e.g., Food Service, Medical, Mail/Visiting) and ensures any violations are addressed and corrected.
- Evaluates applicable policies and procedures.
- Maintains a close working relationship and consultations with the Chief Inspectors office and other institution Grievance Officers.
- Chairs or serves on inmate and institutional committees.
- Attends meetings, conferences, training sessions.
- Serves on interview panels and makes recommendations for selection.
