Provideslegal representation and advice on a broad range of legal matters affecting the university. Researches, interprets, and analyzes local state, federal, and other laws, rules, and regulations as they affect the university; monitors compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. The associate general counsel is expected to be knowledgeable on laws and regulations affecting general higher education law, general contractual and research matters unique to higher education, immigration matters relating to employment and student visas, intercollegiate athletics, NCAA rules and regulations, athletics risk management, and student affairs matters.

Provides legal advice and services to senior leadership, department heads and administrators as directed by the general counsel. Coordinates public records within the Office of General Counsel.

Serves on university committees and represents the Office of the General Counsel as necessary. Participates in the development and review of policies and procedures and other assignments related to administrative matters.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Assists in the coordination of legal affairs for the university: performs assigned legal duties: drafts and reviews contracts/agreements and other legal/business/managerial documents.

Advises and assists the university in the area of research, working with the Office of Research Services, Grants Accounting, and others.

Works with the Office of Research to review grant contracts, sponsored research agreements, patent documents and applications, and other research related legal documents.

Communicates and works with local and state government officials, community groups, and employees regarding issues that affect the university; represents the university before local and state governmental bodies in matters pertaining to the university, including the Ohio Attorney General's Office and its designees.

Researches, interprets, and analyzes local, state, federal, and other laws, rules, and regulations as they affect the university; facilitates and monitors compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Responds to public records requests. Conducts presentations on legal issues for university employees. Represents the Office of the General Counsel by serving on regular and ad hoc committees and acting for the general counsel as assigned. Engages in professional development and continuing legal education to stay current in higher education legal issues.

Participates in the development and implementation of plan, policies, strategies and procedures that comply with university, conference, NCAA rules and regulations and the law. Develops and executes relevant educational programming for department staff. Conducts department Title IX review, conducts annual NCAA violation review, serves as public records liaison. Collaborates with Athletics Compliance on numerous initiatives.

Serves as a member of the Athletics Leadership Team. Serves as an attorney within the Office of General Counsel. Engages in select university-wide matters as assigned by the general counsel.

Acts as a liaison with faculty, staff, chairs, and deans in connection with immigration matters for faculty and staff post offer.

Monitors sponsorship timelines post-hire for international faculty and staff.

Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and establishes and oversees export control measures.

Manages and oversees the provision of immigration advising for faculty.

Assists with preparation of forms I-29 Petition for nonimmigrant workers. Prepares and submits all required immigration documents for international faculty and staff in consultation with special counsel for immigration matters. Provides documentation related to the sponsoring of international candidates for permanent residency including working with the employee and outside counsel to file labor certification applications and immigrant petitions.

Maintains all required immigration documents, files, and paperwork pursuant to federal and state law and YSU records retention policy.
