Executive Summary

We are seeking an experienced, results-driven Foundry Plant Manager to direct all manufacturing operations at our specialty alloy facility. In this role, you will lead melt-shop operations, alloy formulation, toll-melting services, and powder/shot production for high-specification ferrous and non-ferrous metals (including iron, steel, cobalt, copper, and nickel-based alloys).

The ideal candidate possesses deep metallurgical insight, strong operational leadership, and an uncompromising commitment to plant safety, ISO 9001 quality standards, throughput optimization, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities Operations & Production Leadership
  • Direct daily operational activities across melt shop, atomization, toll processing, shot/ingot production, and shipping/receiving departments.
  • Establish and monitor production key performance indicators (KPIs) to optimize throughput, yield, and melt efficiency while minimizing scrap and downtime.
  • Manage scheduling and workflow for over 600 custom alloy grades, ensuring fast-turnaround custom heats (from 500 lbs to large-scale production runs) meet client specifications.
  • Drive lean manufacturing practices, 5S standards, and continuous improvement initiatives across all production lines.
Metallurgy, Quality & Process Control
  • Enforce rigorous quality assurance protocol in compliance with ISO 9001:2015 certifications.
  • Collaborate with metallurgical technicians to oversee chemistry verification (spectrometry/XRF), charge calculations, ladle additions, and toll melting revert recertification.
  • Troubleshoot metallurgical defects, furnace lining performance, atomization nozzle wear, and metal purity issues.
Safety, Environmental & Compliance
  • Champion a safety-first culture; enforce strict compliance with OSHA standards, local environmental regulations, and PPE requirements in high-heat, liquid-metal environments.
  • Lead incident investigations, safety audits, and corrective action programs (CAPA).
  • Oversee emissions control systems, baghouses, and hazardous materials management.
People & Team Development
  • Directly supervise department leads, furnace operators, maintenance technicians, and quality assurance personnel.
  • Mentor and train plant staff to build cross-functional capabilities and succession paths.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable workforce with an emphasize on operational safety and precision.
Maintenance & Capital Expenditures (Cap Ex)
  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs for induction furnaces, atomizers, material handling equipment, and auxiliary plant utilities.
  • Manage plant operational budget, equipment upgrades, and Cap Ex proposals to expand production capacity or introduce new alloy processing capabilities.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Education:

Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Management (or equivalent combination of education and hands-on foundry experience).
  • Experience:

8-12+ years in foundry or specialty alloy manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a plant-level supervisory or operational management role.
  • Technical Mastery:
    • Deep working knowledge of induction melting, ladling, casting, ingot production, or metal atomization (shot/powder).
    • Demonstrated familiarity with nickel-, cobalt-, steel-, and copper-based alloy formulations.
    • Proven experience managing ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Leadership

    Skills:

Track record of driving continuous improvement, safety metrics, and labor efficiency in hot-metal manufacturing environments.
  • Financial & Business Acumen:
Experience managing plant operational budgets, material yields, charge cost optimization, and supply chain scheduling.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in revert/toll-melting management and furnace charge optimization.
  • Familiarity with metal powder production technologies (gas/water atomization for thermal spray, MIM, or press & sinter applications).
  • Six Sigma Black/Green Belt certification.
  • Direct experience operating within family-owned or agility-driven specialty metal operations.
