Position: Nurse Practitioner - Correctional Urgent Care - $150K-160K per year

Job Summary

Core Civic is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (Urgent Care) to provide primary and urgent care services to inmates in Youngstown, Ohio. The position is ongoing and staff employment.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation: $150,000 - $160,000 per year. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(K), PTO, holidays, five CME days, up to $500 in CME allowance, malpractice coverage, and a bonus opportunity.

Responsibilities Primary Healthcare Services
  • Conduct thorough medical evaluations, physical examinations, and medical histories for incarcerated individuals.
  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and infections.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, prescribing appropriate medications, therapies, and interventions.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory work, radiological examinations, and screenings.
  • Provide vaccinations, perform health screenings, and promote preventive care measures within the correctional population.
  • Perform basic technical skills such as suturing, splinting, and injections.
Chronic Disease Management
  • Monitor and manage chronic diseases prevalent among incarcerated individuals, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, HIV/AIDS, and Hepatitis

    C.
  • Ensure proper medication management, including prescribing, adjusting dosages, and monitoring treatment effectiveness.
  • Educate patients on disease management strategies, lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence.
  • Collaborate with specialty care providers for consultations and referrals when necessary.
Emergency Medical Services
  • Respond to medical emergencies within the correctional facility, providing immediate assessment, stabilization, and necessary interventions.
  • Coordinate with emergency medical services or arrange for transfers to external medical facilities when required.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and training exercises to ensure efficient emergency response.
Collaboration and Coordination
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, dentists, social workers, and other correctional staff.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, providing necessary information, consultations, and referrals.
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance overall healthcare delivery.
Documentation and Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including patient histories, diagnoses, treatments, and medications administered.
  • Adhere to patient confidentiality regulations and ensure the security and privacy of medical records.
  • Comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing correctional healthcare and professional ethical standards.
Professional Development
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in primary care, correctional medicine, and relevant healthcare regulations.
  • Engage in continuous professional development activities.
  • Provide training and education to correctional staff on primary healthcare topics as needed.
Qualifications
  • Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state where the correctional facility is located.
  • Experience in providing primary care or relevant experience in correctional or underserved populations (preferred).
  • Strong assessment and diagnostic skills, with the ability to manage a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a challenging and dynamic environment.
