Clinical Nursing Student – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital
Job Summary:
The Clinical Nursing Student provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.
- Supports the nurse in the nursing process under RN direction
- Develops critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery
- Seeks educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking
- Provides basic patient care including care and comfort, vital signs, personal care and hygiene, mobility, and unit-based specialty duties
- Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns
- Provides high level customer service to patients, families, visitors, and employees
- Delivers accurate, precise, timely documentation of patient care when applicable
- Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information during patient arrival and departure
- Performs delegated tasks after competency has been validated
- Collects and documents patient data such as vital signs, intake/output, and changes in condition
- Performs basic patient hygiene and ADL care: ambulation, feeding, hydration, nutrition, bowel and bladder elimination
- Utilizes clinical technology as applicable
- Escalates concerns appropriately through the chain of command
- HS/GED (required)
- Currently enrolled in a nursing program and completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation (required)
- BLS (preferred)
- Recent experience in acute care and/or long term care facility (preferred)
- Clear communication with other members of the healthcare team
- Ability to understand and follow directions of the healthcare team
- Knowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards and regulations (e.g., falls, skin breakdown, suicide prevention, environment of care)
- Infection prevention and transmission-based precautions
- Team dynamics
- Compassionate, relationship-based approach in care activities
- Accountability for completion of assigned tasks

- Understanding of nursing process
- Professionalism
- Must have completed First Clinical Rotation as a Nursing Student
- EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred)
