Shift and Schedule- Part‑time – 24 hours per week
- Night shift – 7:00 pm to 7:30 am
- Weekend only; premium pay on weekends in addition to base rate
The Registered Nurse Medical/Surgical functions as a care provider of a multidisciplinary care team responsible for the delivery of patient care using the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN possesses the basic knowledge of a patient’s age and cultural diversity in the provision of patient care, demonstrates strong skills related to effective time management and prioritizing patient care, contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement initiatives, collaborates with other professional disciplines, and supports the mission of the ministry to provide physical and psychological support to patients and families.
EssentialJob Functions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to establish goals and strategies for the discharge or continuing care needs of patients.
- Perform and document complete patient assessments, initiate and maintain current nursing care plans for all assigned patients.
- Identify patient learning needs to provide individualized and comprehensive teaching.
- Administer medications safely in accordance with state practice and Bon Secours Mercy Health policies and procedures.
- Serve as the point of contact for patients’ care coordination throughout hospital departments.
- Act as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department.
- Serve as a patient advocate in collaboration with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics.
- Current RN license in the state of work or covered by a compact (required)
- BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain prior to direct patient care)
- ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred)
- Medical‑Surgical Nursing Certification RN‑BC (board certified) (preferred)
- CCRN Critical Care Registered Nurse (preferred)
- PCCN Progressive Care Certified Nurse (preferred)
- CMSRN Certified Medical‑Surgical Registered Nurse (preferred)
- National Institute of Health (NIH) Stroke Certification (preferred)
Bachelor of Science Nursing (preferred)
Work Experience- One year of RN experience (required)
- Six months of RN experience in an acute care hospital setting (preferred)
- Assign patient care according to nursing skill, knowledge, and scope of practice of staff.
- Orient, facilitate learning, and provide education to nursing staff and others.
- Possess clinical knowledge, skills, and competency to provide evidence‑based patient care in accordance with current standards of practice, policy, and procedure.
- Perform comprehensive assessment of patient’s clinical condition and psychosocial needs.
- Safely and efficiently develop, implement, and prioritize plan of care.
- Apply the nursing process in patient care delivery.
- Assess patient’s physical and emotional responses to treatment to evaluate effectiveness of interventions and revise plan of care accordingly.
- Assist patient and family in coping with illness.
- Collaborate with others in coordinated patient care.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
- Apply cultural diversity and inclusion principles when caring for patients and their support resources.
- Recognize own limitations and seek assistance as needed.
- Advance personal and professional growth through participation in educational programs, current literature, and workshops.
- Exhibit professionalism through accountability for own and delegated actions.
