Job Overview
As part of Johnson Controls' North America Branch, you will support commercial HVAC buildings as a Controls Technician, performing preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning of building automation systems while ensuring high customer satisfaction.
ResponsibilitiesUnder minimal supervision, conduct preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning and general servicing of systems, including detailed troubleshooting of systems.
Provide direct on‑site customer interface to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
Mentor control technicians, service technicians and mechanical technicians on building automation activities, ensuring technical proficiency.
Complete required project and service documentation accurately and on time.
Provide customers with the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service‑related items and act as a trusted advisor to suggest solutions and outcomes.
Diagnose and repair complex control systems malfunctions, test and write modifications in multiple programming languages, and interpret system software.
Provide field proposals for retrofits, upgrades, or enhancements, and assist sales with technical recommendations.
Manage work assignments to meet professional and efficient execution of time and customer satisfaction.
Report problems or changes to management immediately and interface with branch manager, service manager and subcontractors to coordinate projects.
Provide sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings, assist with job layouts and bid proposals.
Install and modify software and graphics, communicate with customers before and after site visits, and promote add‑on work.
Adhere to all Johnson Controls and customer safety standards, provide safety leadership and instruction to technicians, and conduct safety awareness training with subcontractors.
Train customers in control system operations, deliver manuals and documentation, and provide mentorship for certification of Controls Technicians and Service Technicians.
Compile job documentation including certificates of completion, customer training forms, certifications, and punch lists.
Conduct extensive self‑study to maintain technical proficiency and complete required certifications.
Assist in design and configuration of building control systems, create flow diagrams, sequences of operations, bills of material, network layouts, and electrical schematics.
Assist in development and testing of software programs necessary to operate the system per project requirements, and compile and complete as‑built and close‑out documentation.
Assist in coordination of drawings, equipment schedules, and material ordering; perform loading and commissioning of controllers; and validate full system functionality, troubleshooting with subcontractors and trades.
Provide field change information for project team and keep management and contractor informed of job progress.
Assist in performing site‑specific training for owners/operators, participate in release meetings, provide recommendations and solutions for efficient facility operation, and produce quotes for recommended solutions.
Travel

The role may require travel of up to three hours from the employee's home location.
- Minimum of 2 years Commercial Controls troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry (buildings, chiller plants, and systems).
- Vocational school graduate or associate's degree in a technical field, or at least two years’ experience servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated ability to install and/or service electronic control systems and HVAC equipment.
- Effective communication skills to represent Johnson Controls on customer sites.
- Ability to explain technical information to technical and non‑technical people.
- Strong written communication skills and understanding of programs and software applications.
- Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and other building subsystems.
Hourly Range
: $28.17 – $38.79 (dependent on education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities). This position offers a competitive bonus plan and comprehensive benefits package.
