SUMMARY:

Easterseals of Northeast Ohio is looking for a full-time Client Peer Support Advisor for the Deaf (CPSAD). The right candidate for this position will be required, but not limited to:

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Provide direct service to Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and Deafblind persons by interviewing prospective clients to assess their needs, determine eligibility for programs, serve as a liaison between the client and social, medical, educational, and employment service providers, and gather and document data. Direct services will be provided in American Sign Language (ASL) and in a culturally sensitive manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Conduct intake interviews with Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and Deafblind people to determine their needs and eligibility for agency services.
  • Advocates for, and assists clients with gaining access to needed medical, social, educational, and vocational services as needed in a client-centered/client-empowered manner.
  • Provide all services in the most linguistically appropriate, culturally aware, and sensitive manner.
  • Provide referrals and information to increase education for clients and families on available resources, increase support networks, and coordinate services among multiple service providers.
  • Plans, organizes and participates in special projects, including outreach efforts, public speaking, and special activities to further educate and train the client and the community.
  • Provide peer mentoring to clients for problem-solving, self-sufficiency modeling, and appropriate cross-cultural behaviors.
  • Assist clients in obtaining vocational and employment services.
  • Assist secondary education students with pre-employment transitional services and planning of career goals.
  • Prepare client-related reports, records, assessments, and information to be entered into the designated electronic record-keeping system and statistical compiling.
  • Will be required to travel to all counties serviced by the agency when “in-person” meetings are needed with clients residing too far from the agency or unable to travel to the agency to receive services.
  • Travel between multiple sites may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (in Human Services fields such as, but not limited to, Social Services, Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, History, Deaf Studies, Social Work, or other Human Services degrees.)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must have proof of auto insurance.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Knowledge of Deaf Culture
  • A Criminal Background Check must meet the State of OH requirements for direct service capacity involvement.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other program-specific software.
  • Must be honest, dependable, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Must exercise sound judgment in making decisions and act accordingly.
  • Serve as a linguistic and cultural resource to both consumers and providers.
  • Accurately complete and submit required documentation and invoice in a timely manner to ensure compliance with standards of operation.
