Seeking a certified high school instructor to serve as a CORE Advisor (mentor-teacher) for a caseload of students, and to teach up to four sections per semester of high school coursework in a dynamic, rigorous, equity-focused early college program. The following primary certifications are being sought:

  • Secondary Science (DI or DQ preferred)
  • Biology (IA or DA)
  • Chemistry (IC or DC)
  • Physics (IE or DE)

Background on WEOC

Washtenaw Educational Options Consortium (WEOC) is the organizing authority under which the ECA operates. WEOC functions in a way similar to a school district, and four county-wide programs operate within its structure: the ECA, the Washtenaw International High School, Washtenaw International Middle Academy, and the Washtenaw Alliance for Virtual Education. WEOC was voted by its employees as one of Michigan's Top Workplaces in 2021 and was the only Top Workplace non‑profit in the top 75.

The ECA is located on the campus of Eastern Michigan University, which is among the most diverse college campuses in Michigan.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach high‑rigor, college-preparatory science classes to a diverse group of high school students focusing on critical thinking skills and analysis.
  • Create lesson plans and curriculum to prepare students for college‑level work and expectations.
  • Enact principles of equity and social justice in and out of the classroom.
  • Develop and implement unique lessons & assessments in alignment with the Michigan Merit Curriculum applicable subject‑area standards, Eastern Michigan University’s coursework, and the general expectations of the SAT.
  • Assist students with the social‑emotional demands of the early college setting, including holding honest, individual coaching conversations designed to maximize each student’s strengths, build skills in weak areas, and overcome barriers at the high school or college level.
  • Implement the Early College Alliance soft skills curriculum while simultaneously upholding and modeling the ECA soft skills and values as a teacher mentor.
  • Hold regular office hours.
  • Communicate effectively, proactively, and appropriately with students, families, and colleagues via electronic and verbal means.
  • Provide tutoring support in various content areas to students in Applied Studies and/or the after‑school tutoring program.
  • Assist with administrative tasks and support other ECA teachers both in and out of the classroom.
  • Support a team‑based approach to problem solving, while functioning with a high degree of autonomy and self‑direction.
  • Maintain exemplary records for classroom and CORE duties.
  • Work in a highly collaborative and high‑performing team that is strongly teacher‑led.
  • Work cooperatively with district and constituent district staff, students and parents/guardians, and our EMU and community partners.
  • Adhere to district health and safety rules, policies and procedures.
  • Support ECA’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Support WEOC vision and mission to enhance achievement for all students.

Education and/or Experience
