Graduate Assistant - Student-Athlete Support Services; SASS

Duties of the Position

• Meet with student-athletes in one‑on‑one and/or in group sessions for academic mentoring
• Communicate in a timely manner about all issues/concerns with students in cohort
• Prepare daily and weekly summaries to report student‑athlete academic status to coaches
• Develop study strategies and set objective academic goals with assigned student‑athletes
• Help build a self‑directed, active learner so the student‑athlete will accomplish more with less supplemental support
• Support and develop a time management plan for each assigned student‑athlete
• Must exercise high‑level attention to detail for assigned data entry tasks
• Assist with the coordination of and monitoring of daily study tables
• Coordinate and conduct class checks for assigned student‑athletes
• Develop a supportive, individualized approach for student‑athletes from diverse backgrounds
• Assist with planning and implementation of student‑athlete development events, programs, and related functions
• Assist with recruiting weekends, as requested
• Must adhere to all Family Education Rights Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines
• Adhere to NCAA, MAC and University rules and regulations
• Ability to work effectively and relate to a diverse group of coaches, faculty, staff, and student‑athletes
• Other duties as assigned

• Bachelor's degree required
• Skills in written and verbal communication
• Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail and high degree of openness to new approaches and new ideas
• Willingness to seek continuing education and training opportunities for professional growth
• Ability to work with diverse student populations and university personnel
• Knowledge of Google platforms and Microsoft Office Suite
• Familiarity with, and willingness to expand working knowledge of NCAA, MAC and Eastern Michigan Athletics governance rules and expectations
• Full‑time enrollment in an Eastern Michigan University graduate program
• Maintain good academic standing in graduate program; subject to academic standing review at the close of the fall term
• Successful completion of background check

• Minimum of 20 hours per week
• Opportunity for an additional 9 hours per week, paid hourly at a competitive rate
• Evening and weekend hours are required

• Monday, August 24, 2025 through Friday, April 30, 2027 (8‑month appointment, review for renewal at end of 8 months)
• 9‑credits of graduate tuition per semester (fall and winter)
• $10,000 yearly stipend ($5,000/semester)

The GA applicant must be fully or conditionally (conditions 1, 2, or
3) admitted to a graduate program. Pathways students who are enrolled in six graduate credit hours may be eligible under certain conditions. Applicants with condition 5 status or condition 4 status due to reasons of low undergraduate grade‑point average are NOT ELIGIBLE for graduate assistantships. Students with admission for continuing education, non‑degree and teacher certification are also not eligible for a graduate assistantship.

Hire is contingent upon successful completion of background check and offer of admission.
