SUMMARY

The Washtenaw Alliance for Virtual Education (WAVE) and Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) special education teacher consultant will be responsible for implementing the special education delivery model in accordance with the WEOC-WAVE instructional design and pedagogy in a manner that seamlessly transitions WAVE special education students into and through the WEOC-WAVE program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to examine how his/her/their position (directly or indirectly) impacts educational inequities in student achievement outcomes.
  • Engages in reflection and ongoing learning and development on critical concepts and terms identified in the Washtenaw ISD Educational Equity Policy including concepts such as cultural proficiency, racial equity, and systemic and structural inequities.
  • Supports WISD vision and mission to enhance achievement for all students.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service.
  • Functions as advisor, an academic/personal mentor to Special Education students.
  • Works with students, families, and faculty to develop a student’s personalized learning plans, and IEPs.
  • Assists students in accessing support resources.
  • Works with WAVE Administration and the WISD to maintain compliance with district, state, and federal laws and regulations for the provision of special education services.
  • Maintains a flexible daily, weekly, and yearly work schedule that is aligned with the WAVE academic calendar.
  • Participates and contributes to the WAVE Administrative and Instructional teams which includes, but is not limited to staff meetings, professional development and short term and long-term strategic planning.
  • Maintains and updates assigned instructional, team and special education records and student information documents.
  • Maintains regular, predictable attendance.
  • Demonstrates ability to collect, enter, analyze, and use data to develop instructional targets for improved student achievement.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with at-risk youth.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of best practice standards in core content areas and instructional methods.
  • PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s degree with certification in one or more areas of special education, including cognitive, EI and ASD are required
  • Possesses the ability to obtain teacher consultant approval from the State of Michigan.
  • Possesses three (3) years of successful teaching experience; at least two of which must be in special education.
  • Possesses such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Possession of a valid Michigan teaching certificate with a special education endorsement.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Demonstrates ability to explain and demonstrate appropriate teaching techniques.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of educators, students, and the public.
