General Summary

Graduate Assistant position for Academic Advising within the UACDC. Preference given to HESA and counseling graduate students.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The role of the Academic Advisor, Graduate Assistant (GA) is to assist academic advisors on individual and group advising initiatives. The GA must be able to work a minimum of twenty (20) daytime hours, Monday-Friday, most likely on-campus. Although the GA’s assignments will largely be determined by the needs of the office at the given time, every effort will be made to match GA’s interests, skills, experience, and abilities with the appropriate and desired tasks.

  • Provide educational guidance and assistance for students when choosing courses,
  • Creating schedules and planning for academic success
  • Gain familiarity advising a diverse population of students, including first-generation, non-traditional, probationary, and culturally diverse students
  • Meet with new students through freshman orientation and transfer appointments to assist them with initial adjustment to university academic life
  • Aid first-year students with creating academic plans and meeting one-on-one (on-campus /virtual / phone) with them when needed
  • Assist in planning and implementing group advising and student outreach programs
Minimum Qualifications
  • Have an interest in serving students in a higher education setting
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skillsi>
  • Ability to take initiative and exhibit independent judgment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office, Google suite, and Zoom
  • Excellent organizational skills; capable of multitasking effectivelyi>
  • Familiarity with library resources and search toolsi>
  • Demonstrate a level of competency in public relations, customer service, and communicationi>
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a teami>
  • Energetic, proactive, and service-driveni>
