The Eastern Michigan University School of Music & Dance invites applications for a Part-time Lecturer – Artist/Teacher of Bassoon. The successful candidate will teach applied bassoon to a studio of undergraduate and graduate music majors and minors. Additional duties include teaching the bassoon secondary instrument class (for music education majors), recruiting, and performing/teaching at various department events and with various faculty ensembles.
Further consideration may be given to those with the ability to teach or assist in other academic areas, as determined by the candidate's expertise. This part-time appointment (no benefits) will begin in the Fall 2026 semester.
- Teach applied bassoon to a studio of undergraduate and graduate music majors and minors.
- Teach the bassoon secondary instrument class for music education majors.
- Recruit and participate in department events and with faculty ensembles.
- Perform and/or teach at various department activities as needed.
- Develop and maintain professional skills to ensure high‑quality education; meet with students as required, assess work and performance, prepare syllabi and course materials, provide copies to the supervisor on request, and assign/submit grades per university schedules.
- Other related departmental duties as required.
Master of Music degree or equivalent (preferably in bassoon performance) with significant applied teaching experience. The candidate should have an established record as a professional performing artist.
Preferred QualificationsCollege or university teaching experience is desirable.
