General SummaryAdvise and counsel all assigned students on CHHS curriculum requirements, vocational information, scholarship, and/or academic achievement problems.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities- Advise CHHS students on academic, career, and college planning issues and assist in the distribution of information
Assist students on issues related to CHHS programs and course, class loads, course changes, withdrawals, transfers of credit, etc. - Assist in administering advising programs designed for specific students such as students with special needs, evening students, probationary students, international students, non-degree students, etc.
- Assist with in-service training seminars for advisors, graduate assistants and student advising assistants
Maintain relationships with all campus student academic and services offices, which may include, Admissions, Records and Registration, the Graduate School, etc. - Adhere to any and all Eastern Michigan University standards, policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures.
- Attend staff meetings and participate on University committees
If applicable to area of assignment, adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures. - Coordinate undergraduate student recruitment plan.
Perform related departmental duties as required.
Knowledge of CHHS course work and related degree programs; typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree.
One year of experience advising college students, preferably with a focus on CHHS disciplines, is required.
Written and interpersonal communication skills, in order to effectively interact with students, are required.
Personal computer knowledge is required.
Ability to perform physically active work of a light nature including occasional lifting requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to transport materials and equipment may be necessary depending on area of assignment.
Previous experience providing knowledge of academic areas of assignment may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:A master's degree is preferred.
Knowledge of and experience with student information systems, preferably BANNER, as well as database software is preferred.
Teaching experience is preferred.
