General Summary

Assist in the administration as well as the continuous development and implementation of a comprehensive support program for all student-athletes in compliance with University, MAC and NCAA regulations. Exercise discretion and independent judgment while monitoring the academic progress of assigned student-athletes from matriculation to graduation. Coordinate student affairs programs or other projects as assigned by the Associate AD for Student-Athlete Support Services.

Principal

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the delivery of academic support services to assigned student-athletes.
  • Provide specific eligibility counseling and academic support to student-athletes to ensure progress toward educational objectives.
  • Stay abreast of and ensure adherence to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Assist in the planning and organization of a comprehensive learning program for student-athletes, including contact with professors, mentoring and tutorial needs.
  • Provide intensive academic monitoring and tracking of academically at-risk student-athletes and/or at-risk teams.
  • Coordinate student affairs programs and/or other projects related to the operations of the program.
  • Communicate regularly with coaching staff and/or sport administrators regarding the academic status of student-athletes.
  • Assist in the monitoring of a supervised study table program.
  • Meet with prospective student-athletes and their families during official and unofficial visits to provide an overview of available academic, career, personal and community service opportunities.
  • Represent the program at meetings and other events on campus as requested.
  • Perform related departmental duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and skills in guidance, counseling and motivational techniques, typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in education, business or related field is required.
  • Experience advising an assigned population of student-athletes in accordance with the NCAA academic eligibility requirements is required.
  • Two (2) years of experience providing academic support services to student athletes is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse educational, cultural and economic backgrounds is required.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail is critical and required.
  • Ability to use a personal computer, databases, and student information systems is required.
  • Knowledge of issues faced by Division I student-athletes at the campus, conference and national levels is required.
