We are supporting hiring efforts for our long-standing client, a global automotive glass manufacturer, to find an R&D Research Engineer for their Ypsilanti facility. This Engineer will lead technical problem-solving and provide scientific guidance through hands‑on research, development and validation in support of global product development and manufacturing of advanced glass and glazing products. This is a hybrid opportunity.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage multiple complex R&D projects and activities for glass and glazing products simultaneously
- Design and execute complex qualitative and quantitative experiments
- Interpret and communicate experiment results to develop new products, processes or technical knowledge and communicate results
- Drive the concept, design, and development of new materials, technologies and processes within cross‑functional project teams
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex product or process issues and implement sustainable corrective actions
- Prepare and deliver high‑impact technical reports, presentations and publications to internal and external stakeholders
- Interpret customer specifications and validate products against defined requirements
- Assure that all duties and responsibilities are accomplished within company policies and guidelines
- 10+ years progressive R&D experience in ceramic and/or glass materials within automotive, coatings or related industries
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or related engineering discipline
- Knowledge of glass or ceramic systems, including composition, processing, phase transformations, crystallization behavior and structure–property relationships
- Demonstrated leadership of ceramic or glass development projects, including product investigations, root cause analyses and failure evaluations
- Experience in ceramic and glass materials formulation and processing
- Use of analytical and test methods (e.g., DSC/TGA, SEM, XRD), chemical and mechanical testing and interpretation of results to support development decisions
