The Nursing Educator oversees all Health Care Staff educational needs on the WHV Medical Complex. The Nurse Educator is an expert Adult Learning and developing nursing skills. The Educator's responsibilities include working closely with the Human Resource Developer ,mentoring,andevaluatingtheorientationofemployees,alongwiththeannualcompetencies and yearly training. The nurse Educator is back-up to the WHV Quality Assurance Clinical Assistant.
This position works
100% within the secured perimeter of a correctional facility. This is a test designated position for drug and alcohol testing.
Education
Possession of a diploma, associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in nursing accepted for licensure by the Michigan Board of Nursing.
Experience
Two years of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse P11, or one year equivalent to a Registered Nurse 12.
Possession of a master's degree in nursing and one year of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse 12; or, possession of a bachelor's degree in nursing and eighteen months of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse P11; or, possession of a bachelor's degree in nursing and one year of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse 12 may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Possession of a Michigan license in good standing as a registered nurse.
The Department of Corrections will not hire individuals who have been convicted of a felony or who have felony charges pending, in accordance with Public Act 140 of 1996.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
