Summary

Develops, oversees, and improves manufacturing processes through observation, investigation, and evaluation of products and manufacturing methods. Provides quality oversight, support and expertise for production operations. Secures product quality through measurement methods, quality plans/processes, and production improvement. Resolves product defects, non‑conformances, and corrective actions. Collaborates with technicians, engineers, and other departmental leaders.

Levels
  • Level I: Engineering degree required. Hybrid Manufacturing & Quality engineering position supporting projects and processes of limited complexity. Determines tools and equipment needed, documents manufacturing process instructions, assists with equipment operation and troubleshooting, documents quality plans, and assists with quality defect troubleshooting.
  • Level II: Engineering degree required. Hybrid Manufacturing & Quality engineering position gaining exposure to more complex projects and processes. Provides troubleshooting support to operations, seeks to maximize quality and efficiency through improvement projects of limited scope, and can self‑direct daily work activities.
  • Level III: Hybrid Manufacturing & Quality engineering position capable of being a key contributor to moderately complex engineering tasks focusing on improvement of manufacturing and quality processes. Performs cost and time analysis on manufacturing processes, works collaboratively without daily supervision, and seeks to resolve problems through sustainable process improvements.
  • Level IV: Engineering degree required. Hybrid Manufacturing & Quality Engineering position capable of complex specialist analysis for manufacturing operations, performs all tasks up to Level III, collaborates closely with the Technical Director, and provides technical expertise to less experienced team members.
Responsibilities
  • Develop manufacturing processes by analyzing product requirements, researching, testing, implementing, and improving manufacturing methods.
  • Provide engineering support to Manufacturing, including day‑to‑day problem solving of process deficiencies and product defects, updating process documentation, and diagnosing production problems.
  • Evaluate and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product requirements, material types, part features, machining processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality standards.
  • Develop and improve methods for inspection and measurement, including Quality Plans for in‑process and final inspection.
  • Assure product and process quality by designing inspection methods and fixturing, testing process capabilities, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Familiar with chemical and physical properties of metals, including machinability and how chemical and physical processes affect part features such as dimensions, tolerances, and finishes.
  • Consult with planning and engineering staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
Knowledge & Abilities

Familiar with AS9100 quality requirements, administrative procedures, managing paper files and electronic records, competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, knowledgeable in GD&T, good analytical and problem‑solving skills, able to interpret written and oral instructions, work effectively in a team, and communicate effectively in English.

Education & Experience

Levels I, II & IV require a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Level III requires a minimum of 10 years of appropriate technical experience with Sorenson Engineering.
