We are seeking a manufacturing engineer with experience in CAD/CAM development, CNC programming, and training.
SummaryDevelops, oversees, and improves manufacturing processes through observation, investigation, and evaluation of products and manufacturing methods. Provides quality oversight, support and expertise for production operations. Secures product quality through methods of measurement, quality plans/processes, and production improvement. Follows through on resolving product defects, non‑conformances, and corrective actions. Collaborates with technicians, engineers, and other departmental leaders.
Required Levels- Level I – Engineering degree required. Hybrid Manufacturing & Quality engineering position supporting projects and processes of limited complexity. Determines tools and equipment needed to produce product compliant with customer needs. Documents manufacturing process instructions. Assists with equipment operation, conversion, and troubleshooting. Documents quality plans and assists with troubleshooting quality defects. Assists in the creation and management of quality inspection programs.
- Level II – Engineering degree required. Hybrid Manufacturing & Quality engineering position gaining exposure to more complex projects and processes. Capable of performing all tasks of Level I. Provides troubleshooting support to operations. Seeks to maximize quality and efficiency through improvement projects of limited scope. Capable of self‑directing daily work activities and promoting opportunities for improvement to supervisor and/or Technical Director.
- Develop manufacturing processes by analyzing product requirements, researching, testing, implementing, and improving manufacturing methods.
- Provide engineering support to Manufacturing, including day‑to‑day problem solving of process deficiencies and product defects and updating process documentation.
- Investigate, collaborate, and diagnose to resolve production problems.
- Evaluate and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product requirements, material types, part features, machining processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality standards.
- Develop and improve methods for inspection and measurement, including quality plans for in‑process and final inspection.
- Assure product and process quality by designing inspection methods and fixturing, testing process capabilities, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
- Familiar with chemical and physical properties of metals, including machinability, and how chemical and physical processes affect part features, i.e. dimensions, tolerances, and finishes.
- Consult with planning and engineering staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
- Familiar with AS9100 quality requirements and administrative procedures.
- Ability to manage paper files and electronic records.
- Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of GD&T, strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to interpret written and oral instructions.
- Teamwork and effective communication in English.
Levels I, II, and IV require a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Level III requires a minimum of 10 years of appropriate technical experience with Sorenson Engineering.
Physical DemandsMust be able to periodically walk and/or travel to other areas of the plant, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with help, have good eyesight and hand dexterity, and be able to identify and distinguish colors.
Work EnvironmentWithin safety guidelines, exposure to noise, moving mechanical parts, oils/solvents, fumes, and odors that may affect the eyes, ears, nose, throat, and/or skin.
