SummaryResponsible for planning, developing, designing, reviewing, and validating new machine designs and process improvements/optimizations. Evaluates and continuously improves active production processes and equipment. Provides technical knowledge and support for production operations and collaborates with organizational leaders and customers.
Level I – Provides engineering support and expertise for production operations across the facility, develops engineered solutions, assists in improving processes, and becomes familiar with development tools, SEi processes, and manufacturing standards.
Level II – In addition to Level I responsibilities, executes engineering projects as a team member with clear direction from senior engineers and senior management, analyzes processes, provides metrics supporting process improvements and new designs, and has a strong understanding of various SEi processes and manufacturing standards.
Responsibilities- Develop manufacturing processes by analyzing product requirements, researching, testing, implementing, and improving manufacturing methods.
- Provide engineering support to Manufacturing, including day‑to‑day problem solving of process deficiencies and product defects, and updating process documentation. Investigate, collaborate, and diagnose to resolve production problems.
- Evaluate and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product requirements, material types, part features, machining processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality standards.
- Develop and improve methods for inspection and measurement, including Quality Plans for in‑process and final inspection.
- Assure product and process quality by designing inspection methods and fixturing, testing process capabilities, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
- Familiar with chemical and physical properties of metals, including machinability, and how chemical and physical processes affect part features such as dimensions, tolerances, and finishes.
- Confers with planning and engineering staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
- Demonstrate proficiency with PLCs, HMIs, and debugging mechatronic systems.
- Exposure to programming logic controllers and microcontrollers – Beckhoff controls and IEC‑61131‑3 structured text language preferred. Other equipment includes Automation Direct, Schneider, Siemens and Raspberry Pi.
- Comfortable with object‑oriented programming and ladder logic programming.
- Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to communicate with machine technicians and debug on the shop floor, conveying technical information effectively in English.
- Well organized with meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience with C#, C++ or Python.
- Comfortable with electrical cabinets and testing live components with a multimeter.
- Familiarity with basic IPV4 networking and addressing.
- Experience with Electrical Diagramming Software (EPLAN) is preferred.
- Able to work in a team environment to solve technical issues.
Levels I, II & IV require a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Level III requires a minimum of 10 years of appropriate technical experience with Sorenson Engineering.
