We are seeking a motivated, organized, and mechanically inclined Shop & Facility Manager to oversee daily operations in our fence fabrication and supply facility. This full-time role is perfect for someone who takes pride in leadership, efficiency, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Position Summary

Apex Fence & Construction is seeking a highly organized, dependable, and experienced Shop Manager to oversee the daily operations of our shop, warehouse, inventory, fleet, equipment, and material logistics.

This is a hands-on leadership position. The Shop Manager is responsible for making sure our field crews have the materials, equipment, vehicles, and support they need to perform their jobs efficiently each day.

The ideal candidate is a strong leader who takes ownership, communicates effectively, delegates effectively, and manages multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment. Experience in warehouse management, fleet management, construction materials, or logistics is strongly preferred. Fence and welding knowledge is a major advantage.

Key Responsibilities
Shop & Warehouse Management
  • Oversee the daily operation, organization, cleanliness, and security of the shop and warehouse.
  • Maintain an organized system for storing fence materials, hardware, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ensure materials are properly received, counted, inspected, stored, and distributed.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of commonly used materials and supplies.
  • Identify material shortages before they impact field operations.
  • Coordinate incoming deliveries and outgoing materials.
  • Maintain designated locations for materials, tools, equipment, and returned items.
  • Reduce lost, damaged, misplaced, and unnecessarily purchased materials.
  • Ensure the shop and yard remain clean, professional, and safe.
Material & Job Logistics
  • Review upcoming projects and coordinate material preparation with the operations and project management teams.
  • Ensure crews have the correct materials, tools, and equipment before leaving for jobs.
  • Coordinate staging and loading of materials for upcoming projects.
  • Verify quantities and materials before they are sent to the field.
  • Manage returned materials from completed projects and ensure usable materials are properly restocked.
  • Coordinate material pickups, deliveries, transfers, and other logistical needs.
  • Anticipate upcoming material and equipment needs instead of reacting to shortages at the last minute.
  • Help prevent downtime caused by missing materials, tools, vehicles, or equipment.
Fleet Management
  • Oversee the condition and readiness of company trucks, trailers, forklifts, skid steers, and other equipment.
  • Maintain an organized preventive maintenance schedule for company vehicles and equipment.
  • Coordinate oil changes, tires, repairs, inspections, registrations, and scheduled maintenance.
  • Identify vehicle or equipment issues and coordinate repairs before they create larger problems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
  • Ensure trucks and trailers are properly equipped for field operations.
  • Monitor vehicle and equipment cleanliness and general condition.
  • Help control unnecessary repair costs through preventive maintenance and accountability.
  • Coordinate with outside mechanics, dealerships, tire shops, and equipment repair companies when necessary.
Tools & Equipment
  • Maintain accountability for company-owned tools and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain systems for checking tools and equipment in and out.
  • Inspect returned tools and equipment for damage or maintenance needs.
  • Coordinate repairs and replacement of damaged or worn equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate quantities of commonly used tools and consumable supplies.
  • Help reduce tool loss and unnecessary replacement costs.
Leadership & Personnel Management
  • Lead and manage shop and warehouse personnel.
  • Assign daily responsibilities and clearly communicate expectations.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and follow up to ensure completion.
