Advanced Accounting, Financial, and Court Operations Duties
This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly salary. Salary will be determined on education and experience at the time of offer.
Nature of WorkUnder minimal supervision, performs advanced accounting, financial, and court operations duties in support of Justice Court functions; responsible for maintaining compliance with Minimum Accounting Standards (MAS), reconciling and processing court financial transactions, preparing monthly and annual financial reports, and maintaining accurate financial records to comply with Yuma County Financial services, this position has department specific responsibilities.
Performs all duties in compliance with MAS, court policies, administrative orders, and applicable statutes; reconciles all monies received daily, including cash drawers, electronic transactions, change funds, petty cash, and deposits; reviews and verifies daily reconciliations against cash drawer balance reports and identifies discrepancies; prepares and processes bank deposits and reconciles receipts with deposits and bank statements; processes court disbursements, chargebacks, reversals, voids, and maintains all supporting documentation;
maintains pending bond, hold receipt, returned check, and other financial tracking reports and spreadsheets; processes financial transactions related to bonds, orders to release, warrant cancellations, court abstracts, and other court-related activities; assists in resolving financial allocation, assessment, and receipting issues; prepares monthly remittance reports identifying the distribution of monies deposited with the court; reconciles receipts journals, disbursement journals, bank statements, open items, petty cash, change funds, and cash drawers;
reviews outstanding bonds and financial obligations to ensure timely processing and compliance with applicable requirements; prepares and submits invoice requisitions and supporting financial documentation to Yuma County Finance; assists with fiscal year-end processing, reporting requirements, audits, and compliance reviews; maintains financial records, reports, and documentation in accordance with retention schedules and court policies; receives, assesses, and receipts fines, fees, bonds, and other court payments;
performs general office support duties, prepares correspondence, and maintains records and reports; participation in the Arizona Committee on Judicial Education and Training (COJET) annual accreditation process; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.
Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field; AND four years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or court financial experience, OR any equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved, requires successful completion of a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a court, governmental, municipal, or public-sector financial environment.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Applicable Arizona statutes, court rules, administrative orders, and policies;
Yuma County and Superior Court policies and procedures;
Minimum Accounting Standards (MAS); principles and practices of bookkeeping, accounting, and financial record keeping;
Court financial procedures, receipting, deposits, and reconciliations; legal terminology and court processes involving civil, criminal, traffic, and small claims cases; modern office procedures and computer applications; records management and document retention requirements. Skill in:
Reconciling complex financial transactions and accounts; preparing financial reports and maintaining accurate records; identifying and correcting financial discrepancies; providing excellent customer service in a high-volume environment; training and mentoring staff; prioritizing multiple assignments and meeting deadlines; operating court case management, accounting, and office software systems; communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to:
Maintain confidential and sensitive information; interpret and apply court policies, statutes, and accounting standards; analyze financial and operational issues and recommend solutions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with court staff, outside agencies, and the public; work independently while exercising sound judgment; produce accurate reports and maintain detailed records.
