Purpose Statement
The job of Instructional Leader is done for the purpose/s of building the capacity at the school site in the areas of organizational leadership; instruction, communication, collaboration and culture toward increased student achievement for all students; coordinating a high school department and/or program activities; providing recommendations of expenditures for activities, equipment, and supplies that enhance the assigned program; and serving as resource to faculty by providing support and guidance based on their subject area knowledge and experience, as well as fulfill day to day managerial duties in support of administration.
This job reports to Principal
Essential Functions
* Assists school administrator (e.g. budgets, staffing, enrollment, status of curriculum implementation, regulatory compliance, curriculum standards, etc.) for the purpose of providing information required for developing administrative reports and supporting them in the overall leadership of site operations.
* Assists with placing department student teachers for the purpose of providing first line leadership support to student teachers.
* Collaborates with other personnel regarding instructional techniques and best practices, curriculum development, professional responsibilities, students' needs, etc. for the purpose of providing guidance and mentoring.
* Conducts department and cross curricular meetings (e.g. interpreting regulatory policies; planning and implementing curriculum; addressing textbook evaluations, operational issues, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating and receiving information and ensuring service delivery in compliance with established guidelines.
* Confers with other department and other personnel instructional techniques, development of curriculum, supervision guidelines and responsibilities, students' needs, etc. for the purpose of providing guidance and mentoring.
* Identifies and monitors program needs for the purpose of providing recommendations of expenditures for activities, equipment, supplies, etc. that will enhance the assigned program.
* Implements curriculum modifications, policies, procedures and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
* Instructs students and carries out the essential functions of a teacher for the purpose of helping students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development and academic success.
* Observes classroom instruction informally and formally for the purpose of assessing the implementation of established curriculum, instructional techniques and classroom management.
* Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. department, IEP, district curriculum, parent groups and conferences, site council, district preparations, in-service, etc.) for the purpose of representing both their department/school and ensuring the development of an articulated program within their subject area.
* Participates in the development of master schedules and/or class size issues for assigned subject areas (e.g. teacher assignments, scheduling of classes, facilities and instructional equipment usage, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a positive learning environment and the efficient use of resources within district and state guidelines.
* Responds to personnel issues for the purpose of addressing, ensuring, and maintaining a high level of professional practice/competencies.
* Serves as a resource to Department personnel (e.g. new teacher orientation, instructional process, classroom management, curriculum, etc.) for the purpose of acting as a liaison between site administration and department staff, and providing support, guidance and mentoring when requested based on their knowledge and experience to maintain a high level of competencies within the department.
Other Functions
* Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; applying pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; coordinating activities with other schools, districts and/or agencies; facilitating department goals; and organizing and communicating information and concepts.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information,
compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
