Position: Assistant Principal - 2026/2027 (Internal Applicants Only)
Purpose Statement

The job of Assistant Principal - High School is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibility for directing assigned programs and services at a high school; assisting the Principal in maintaining overall site operations; providing information and serving as a resource to others; supervising assigned staff; coordinating school activities and addressing issues, situations and/or problems that arise on campus or with enrolled students.

Essential Functions

* Assists the principal as an instructional leader for the purpose of ensuring student college and career readiness, maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achievement objectives of Ready Now Yuma.

* Evaluates assigned personnel (e.g. security staff, support personnel, teachers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that standards are achieved and performance is maximized.

* Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.

* Facilitates meetings (e.g. curriculum, safety, site advisory, special district committees, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring that outcomes achieve school, district and/or state objectives.

* Implements policies, procedures and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.

* Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills and/or initiating disciplinary action.

* Manages a wide variety of programs and school administrative functions (e.g. student disciplinary policy, school schedule, assigned personnel (Activities,Athletics, Special Services, as appointed), teacher assignments, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school, district and state policy and maintaining safety and efficiency of school operations.

* Monitors students in variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, hallways, cafeteria, ACT testing, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and secure learning environment.

* Monitors expenditures for the purpose of adhering to budget requirements, laws and policies, and ensuring availability of funds as required.

* Participates as a member or facilitator in meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g. staff development for teachers, evaluating programs, assessing needs, regulatory requirements, actions involving outside agencies, etc.) for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, providing training and conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

* Performs personnel administrative functions (e.g. interviewing, evaluating, handling misconduct issues, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget.

* Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.g. long and short range plans, master schedule, student activities, correspondence, audits, athletic schedule, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.

* Presents information on a variety of topics (e.g. instructional strategies, new curriculum implementation, discipline standards, coaching requirements, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.

* Represents the school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to school environment.

* Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external parties (e.g. parents, district staff, other schools, athletic groups, activity clubs, Yuma Police Department, general public, students, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, facilitating communication among parties and/or providing direction.

* Supervises assigned school personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and ensuring effective operations of the school.

* Supports the principal for the purpose of providing assistance with administrative functions of maintaining overall school site operation.

Other Functions

* Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
