Primary FunctionUnder the direction of the school principal, the teacher supports the Diocese of Tucson mission to evangelize, catechize, and educate youth in a Catholic School environment. The teacher shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Recognize and support the unique Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing in accordance with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Demonstrate living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and by modeling the teaching of Jesus through attitude and example.
- Assist in building the school’s faith community by participating in and helping to plan religious and service activities.
- Lead and participate in classroom prayer daily.
- Plan lessons that meet academic goals and objectives and incorporate a Catholic religious curriculum as articulated by the school.
- Demonstrate teaching competence through thorough knowledge of the curriculum, effective communication with students, and organization of classroom materials to maximize learning time.
- Use evaluation methods directly related to curriculum objectives, clearly communicating student progress.
- Establish a consistent disciplinary approach that promotes self‑direction, positive self‑image, and high standards for behavior.
- Maintain a functional and pleasant learning environment.
- Cooperate with school and diocesan administration, working effectively with staff to promote positive relationships with students and parents. Attendance at faculty trainings and meetings is required.
- Demonstrate professional responsibility by enforcing school policies and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of information, use sound judgment in dress and behavior, and follow school dress code standards.
- Abide by directives from the principal and perform other duties as assigned.
- Physical and mental requirements: demonstrate coordination, manual dexterity, normal mental and visual capabilities, and the ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.
Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding.
Basic Qualifications- Strong commitment to fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church. If baptized, must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
- Excellent communication skills, including written, oral, public speaking, and presentation.
- Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; self‑starter, well‑organized, and a team player.
- Availability for evening and weekend work as necessary; reliable transportation.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency with computer technology, including word processing and Excel, with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Flexibility in assessing needs and adjusting strategies appropriately in a ministerial environment.
- Completion of a criminal history and background check.
- Professional bearing and clean, neat personal appearance.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Certified by the State of Arizona as a teacher, with renewal per state law.
- Level I Diocesan Ministry Certification, renewed every three years.
