QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Shall hold valid Arizona certification in school psychology.
  • Three years successful experience in educational psychology or related field preferred.
  • REPORTS TO: Special Education Director

    JOB GOAL: To provide comprehensive direct and indirect school psychological services to promote mental health and facilitate learning.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS. Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills.     Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions, but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serves on Child Study team at each school to collaborate with parents, school and outside personnel regarding mental health, behavioral and education concerns. Assists the team in generating education alternatives, modifications, referrals for assessment or community-based interventions/services.
  • Conducts multi factored psychological and psycho-educational assessments of children and youth referred according to state and federal mandates. Assessments include consideration of areas of personal-social adjustment, intelligence-scholastic aptitude, adaptive behavior, language and communication skills, academic achievement, sensory and perceptual-motor functioning, environmental-cultural influences, and vocational development, aptitude and interests.
  • Generates a psycho-educational report following each assessment which contains all required components as defined by state and federal mandates.
  • Reviews psycho-educational evaluation reports of all special education transfer students and writes addendum to include any missing components required by state and federal mandates.
  • Participates as case manager at multi-disciplinary conference to interpret results of the psycho-educational evaluation, make recommendations and assist in making educational placements.
  • Assists in the development of the Individualized Educational Program (IEP) for all students placed in special education programs.
  • Provides inservice and other skill enhancement activities to school personnel, parents and others in the community, regarding issues of learning, development and behavior.
  • Assists in the development of programs to enhance cognitive, affective, social and vocations development of all students.
  • Conducts individual and/or group counseling for emotionally handicapped students as needed.
  • Designs, conducts, reports and/or utilizes the results of research of a psychological and educational nature as needed.
  • Consults and cooperates with community health and human services agencies.
  • Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.

    Work year, salary and benefits as established by the Board.

    EVALUATION:

    Performance of this job shall be evaluated by the Special Education Director in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
