PT - LETA Instructor
Teaches/Lectures for Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA) Program, ensuring that lectures adhere to all applicable regulatory agencies and guidelines
Typical Duties:
- Serves students. Teach law enforcement training courses as required. Instructors are responsible for the daily operation of the program, which includes lecturing, project management, and the assignment of reinforcement work for students.
- Set up and breakdown of equipment for the use during proficiency skills training. Instructors are required to teach skills in accordance with the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) rules and procedures, the Educational Standards, and the course syllabi. Instructors teach through both lecture and practical hands-on education. Courses may include theory, practical application, skills training, or live scenarios
- Implementation of lesson plans for required topics/subjects. Instructors may be required to create a lesson plan for any given lecture. This includes but is not limited to the creation of lectures, Power Points, and homework assignments.
- Promotes Law Enforcement Training programs through local, regional, and national partners. Serve on local and state committees as directed by the Director of LETA.
- Working with the Director of LETA and Course Coordinator, coordinate regular reviews of the program to ensure effectiveness and alignment with the college's mission and values, and in meeting community/workforce needs. Identify student learning outcomes; develop processes and tools for assessment; incorporate student data to modify instructional materials.
- Design, develop, and update program curriculum under the supervision of the Director of LETA.
- Supports and participates in strategic planning initiatives and performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's degree, certificate, licensure at the highest level being taught, OR
- Qualify under the occupational experience requirement for career, technical, and professional credential fields with three full-time years (or equivalent). Documentation of work experience must demonstrate currency and relevance to the course content and student learning outcomes with the following experience:
- More than three full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience in the specific credential field, AND
- One year of which the work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field, OR
- Three years of full-time (or equivalent) post-secondary teaching experience in the credential field within the past five years
- Meet qualifications as outlined under institutional procedure, Faculty Credentials
- Applicants may indicate any additional language proficiencies in their application materials, including English/Spanish, as relevant to the position
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
- Current certified Arizona Peace Officer
- Certified as a General, Proficiency, or Specialist and in good standing with AZPOST
- Instructed AZPOST Basic Academy curriculum within the last two years
- Arizona Driver's License or Equivalent

- Up to 19 hours per week
- Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and/or institutional needs, which may include Fridays, nights, and/or weekends
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply, and follow college policies and procedures
- Knowledge of or ability to maintain organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures
- Skill in current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications, Windows, college system platforms, software, and applications, especially those specific to the department operations
- Knowledge of content and technical field of instruction
- Skill and ability to be self-directed and to manage one's own time
- Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
- Skill in creating and grading assessments that accurately measure student learning
- Skill and proficiency in planning and delivering engaging and effective instruction
- Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development
- Ability to organize, prioritize, follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion, with close attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a collaborative team environment
- Ability to provide assistance in a professional and supportive manner
- Ability to utilize appropriate instructional strategies and educational technology for various modalities
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, in writing, and in a public setting, and to relate to others in a professional manner
- Ability to be flexible and supportive, positively and proactively assimilate change in a rapid growth environment
