Summary of Function

Teaches / Lectures for Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA) Program, ensuring that lectures adhere to all applicable regulatory agencies and guidelines.

Typical Duties
  • Serve students. Teach law enforcement training courses as required, including lecturing, project management, and assigning reinforcement work.
  • Set up and break down equipment for proficiency skills training, teaching skills in accordance with Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) rules, educational standards, and course syllabi.
  • Implement lesson plans for required topics/subjects and may create lectures, PowerPoint presentations, and homework assignments.
  • Promote Law Enforcement Training programs through local, regional, and national partners; serve on local and state committees as directed by the Director of LETA.
  • Coordinate regular program reviews with the Director of LETA and Course Coordinator to ensure effectiveness, alignment with the college’s mission, and community/workforce needs. Identify student learning outcomes, develop assessment tools, and incorporate data to modify instructional materials.
  • Design, develop, and update program curriculum under the supervision of the Director of LETA.
  • Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree, certificate, licensure at the highest level being taught, OR
  • Qualify under the occupational experience requirement for career, technical, and professional credential fields with three full-time years (or equivalent). Documentation must demonstrate currency and relevance to course content and student learning outcomes.
  • More than three full-time years of verified related paid work experience in the specific credential field, AND
  • One year of work experience within the five years preceding the date of application, OR
  • Three years of full‑time (or equivalent) post‑secondary teaching experience in the credential field within the past five years.
  • Meet qualifications as outlined under institutional procedure, Faculty Credentials.
  • Applicants may indicate additional language proficiencies, including English/Spanish, as relevant.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
  • Certified as a General, Proficiency, or Specialist and in good standing with AZPOST.
  • Instructed AZPOST Basic Academy curriculum within the last two years.
  • Arizona Driver’s License or Equivalent.

  • Work flexible schedule to meet program, department, and/or institutional needs, which may include Fridays, nights, and/or weekends.

  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply, and follow college policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of how to maintain organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Skill in current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications, Windows, college system platforms, and department‑specific software.
  • Knowledge of content and technical field of instruction.
  • Skill and ability to be self‑directed and manage one’s own time.
  • Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature.
  • Skill in creating and grading assessments that accurately measure student learning.
  • Skill and proficiency in planning and delivering engaging and effective instruction.
  • Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion, with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to provide assistance in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Ability to utilize appropriate instructional strategies and educational technology for various modalities.
