We are looking for someone to join Team Yuma as an Industrial Pretreatment Inspector, working with the Department of Utilities – Wastewater Pretreatment Division. This ideal candidate will be responsible to inspect and review industrial facilities discharging wastewater to the City's collection system.
Under basic supervision, performs technical work in the inspection and sampling of industrial and commercial waste discharges to ensure compliance with Utilities Department discharge permits. Prepares inspection reports and compliance documents and participates in enforcement actions and compliance hearings. Also participates in public outreach and education activities.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Inspects industrial facilities discharging wastewater to the City's collection system; documents changes in industrial processes, and determines compliance with environmental regulations, codes, and permits.
- Monitors industrial wastewater discharges, using standard sampling methods to determine compliance with Federal and State environmental regulations, and City policies, procedures and standards.
- Cleans, maintains, calibrates and operates equipment used for metering, sampling and analyzing industrial wastewater discharges.
- Reviews industrial discharge analytical data, documents findings, prepares inspection reports and letter to regulated commercial and industrial users regarding inspections, instances of noncompliance with local pretreatment requirements, and necessary corrections.
- Maintains files of inspection reports, sampling reports, chain of custody and compliance records, analytical data, correspondence and case files.
- Collects industrial user data, calculates cost of treating industrial discharges, and generates billing as required for Industrial Cost Recovery.
- Identifies and diagnoses compliance problems, discusses scope and attributes of problems with staff and management, and recommends procedural changes to correct problems.
- Assists in the preparation of enforcement actions for noncompliance with discharge regulations and reporting requirements; including notices of violation and official correspondence.
- Reviews construction plans to assure compliance with the City's pretreatment program requirements; monitors construction projects, and verifies compliance to plans.
- Conducts public outreach and education activities.
- Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the “Yuma Way”, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND three years of W/WW operations experience including pretreatment program experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. College coursework in chemistry, biology, and W/WW technology is desirable.
Knowledge of:- City policies and procedures.
