Job DescriptionMarine Operational Test Squadron One (VMX-1) in Yuma, Arizona has an opportunity for a CH-53K Operational Test and Evaluation Engineer. VMX-1 conducts operational tests and evaluations to ensure the effectiveness and suitability of Marine Corps aviation assets, which include UAS, helicopters, and fixed‑wing aircraft. The Operational Test Engineer works closely with pilots and other subject matter experts from the Marine Corps and Navy to plan for test events, collect data, analyze results, and draft reports to ensure verified and validated operational requirements are met, and capabilities are effective and suitable.
The applicant will support VMX-1 with integrating Electronic Warfare (EW) test systems and generate models and simulations of the latest RF (Radio frequency) threats.
Responsibilities- Support lab integration and simulation development scheduling
- Develop EW threat simulation from EWIRDB for use with RF simulators
- Provide expert guidance for RF simulation development and support simulation verification through testing
- Research and develop emitter/mode RF threat simulation to run on RF simulators for testing of EW radar receiver
- Produce emitter simulations using A2
PATS (SimUI and SMB) and NEWEG infrastructure to replicate threat radars for static and dynamic scenarios - Test and validate the RF threat simulation against the latest intel report and provide test analysis report with recommendations
- Support full hardware/software integration, conduct acceptance testing, and validate system performance through systematic regression testing and comprehensive data analysis
- Develop and provide personnel training in RF simulation and Intel database such as EWIRDB
- Create and maintain electrical system test strategy and test plans for various EW and RF products
- Characterize wireless communication systems and devices
- Analyze and drive coverage and analysis of failures observed in integration, characterization, and system‑level testing
- Perform integration testing of subassemblies and systems, including RF and digital hardware, firmware, embedded software, and application software
- Facilitate electrical system performance, calibration, durability, and environmental testing of developmental components and systems per test plan
- Develop and maintain test standards, and design and develop test equipment or procure purchased test capital equipment to support test readiness
- Support and perform field testing and act as a liaison to conduct ground and flight testing
- Leverage data analysis and existing tools to reproduce and characterize failures
- Automate tests to enhance test coverage and ensure reproducibility and repeatability
- U.S. citizenship and active Secret Security Clearance
- In‑depth knowledge of airborne EW system engineering design, development, integration, and testing
- Experience in understanding and analyzing EW intelligence databases
- Knowledgeable in constructing emitters using A2
PATS to mimic emitter modes and antenna models - Skill in using multiple tools to analyze signals using a spectrum analyzer and an oscilloscope
- Proficient in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Project)
- Experience working within an integrated government/contractor team
- BS degree in engineering with at least 10 years of EW/RF‑related experience
- 3+ years of relevant industry experience with emphasis on hardware, software, and/or system validation and verification testing
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronics, computer engineering, or related fields
- Skilled with test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and vector network analyzers
- Familiar with Linux applications (command line, shell scripting, debugging utilities, file‑system navigation)
- Familiar with programming languages such as Python or Matlab for data parsing, analysis, and test automation
- Strong root‑cause analysis skills
